Refugee-led Solutions Conference 2023
On September 28, 2023, Kakuma Refugee Camp hosted its first refugee-led conference focused on the challenges facing refugees in Kakuma and the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement. The conference brought together displaced and host communities in Turkana with humanitarian and international development actors to identify innovative, community-driven solutions. Centered on empowerment, collaboration, and shifting narratives around refugees and Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs), the event created space for meaningful dialogue and shared action.
Addressing Inequalities: A Comprehensive Policy Framework for the Realization of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights
This report is informed by insights from the Panel on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights within the Context of Addressing Inequalities (HRC Res. 54/22), convened during the 57th Session of the Human Rights Council. The discussions from this panel emphasised the critical issue of inequality and highlighted the necessity of realising ESCR as a fundamental pillar for building peaceful and thriving societies.
Gender Inclusivity Withing Kenya's Digital Economy
This document examines Kenya’s ICT policies, frameworks, and budget priorities to assess the barriers women and girls face in accessing and participating in the digital economy. It reviews key national and international policy instruments and highlights gaps in inclusion, with the aim of recommending measures to strengthen women’s participation in ICT and support broader economic development in Kenya.
Program Management Capacity Training Report
The Voices Rising Consortium hosted Rai Friedman from Global Rights Defenders in June 2024 to host the first training on Project Management to leaders of Refugee-led Organizations (RLOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) of Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement, in Turkana County, Kenya.
Written Statement to the United Nations General Assembly on the Human Rights Situation in South Sudan
Stichting Global Human Rights Defence and Global Rights Defenders (GRD) are gravely concerned about the human rights situation in South Sudan. Ongoing human rights violations and abuses continue to be committed with impunity, while the worsening environment for civic and political space calls for immediate and lasting intervention. This joint statement, issued by Stichting Global Human Rights Defence and GRD, reflects the concerns of two non-governmental organizations dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of every human being. It provides an overview of their key concerns regarding the situation in South Sudan and sets out recommendations to the Human Rights Council.
A Lawyers Guide to UNDRIP
The Guide provides an overview to UNDRIP including its key articles, its history, and its adoption in legislation federally and provincially, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDRIPA) and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), where the governments of Canada and British Columbia commit to implementing UNDRIP and bringing their laws into alignment.
